Poem: In her Defence

no-consent-770x403

18 November 2018 |CLAUD FULLWOOD | The Canary

My pants
are not an invitation.
My knickers
do not give my consent.
They are not
a statement of intent.

My underwear is
neither here nor there.
It is not suggestive
of my mood. It does not
signify
how easy I
am likely to be.

My thong
does not make me wrong.
How I dress
does not make me less
than anyone
– than you –

less
worthy of respect,
less
sure of my feelings,
less knowledgeable
of my
own
mind.

My lingerie
does not convey
anything.
Ever.
At all
to you,

because
what I wear
is not about you.
What I do
is not about you.
What I feel is
not
about
you

Unless
I say it is.
